Can low speed car accidents cause injury?

It is not uncommon for low speed car accidents to cause neck or back injury even if there is no damage to the involved vehicles.  There are a lot of factors that can result in injury to the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints of the body.  Injury is caused when the load on a structure exceeds its capacity.  This may be the elastic, compression or shearing forces that are applied.  Muscles and tendons react differently when the body is guarding prior to an impact vs. when relaxed.  Ligaments and joint structures also vary in injury depending on the angle of impact and the force.  Low speed car accidents can cause injury to different structures of the spine depending on all the factors involved.  Following any injury the area should be evaluated so the proper treatment is made.  If you or someone you know was in a car accident make sure to schedule with one of our doctors.
